Summary : The article is about introduction of the movie ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’. In the movie, the man named Walter, is a film director of the LIFE magazine. He is in forties and a daydreamer because he lost his dream and became introverted since his father died when he was 17. Since then, as a head of a household, he has done many works and has worked for the LIFE magazine for 16 years, suppressing his desire of freedom and skateboarding. One day, the LIFE magazine decided to be discontinued because of the development of the internet and wanted to cover the magazine’s cover picture with the masterpiece of a photographer, Sean O’connell, which he said ‘the quintessence of life’. However, Walter couldn’t find the picture, so he decided to finde the picture by himself by chasing O’connell.
Opinion : I picked the article because the movie is the best movie in my life so far. I think Walter Mitty is a reflection of all of us. Before reaching the dream, he had nothing to do but to get a job since he was young because of his father’s death. He lost confidence and resolved his desire by imagination. Many of us lost or forgot our dreams as we grow old and just ‘dream’ about what we used to dream. Life makes us adapt ourselves to the reality such as money and family rather than ideal dream. However, the movie tells us that we still have to chase our dream by showing Walter pulling out his adventerous spirit which he originally had. In the process of chasing O’connell, Walter faces many adventures because Sean always moves around a lot of countries and dangerous places. In Greenland, he fought with drunken guy and got on his hellicopter to find Sean. In the middle of the sea, he fought with shark. When he arrived in Iceland, he rode his skateboard on the road, feeling freedom. Paradoxically, Walter’s imagination has made him more be introverted and zone out, but it is the imagination that made Walter actualize his purpose, which is, finding Sean. I think it is a matter of taking chances. Anyone can imagine and dream about what he or she wants, but not everyone can chase his or her dream. In the movie, lost picture gave a chance to Walter. I believe chances are everywhere, around us. What we need to do is just taking it.
